In this piece, I explore our innate connection to nature and our reliance upon the materials of the earth for survival. Functioning as an interactive work, "The Feast" consists of 150 ceramic tiles that viewers were encouraged to take as they passed through the gallery. By the end of the exhibition, only six tiles remained, leaving guests with only a severely distorted image.
Water, earth, wood, animals, and minerals are all things we often take and use for our own benefit without a second thought on the impact it may have on the greater whole of the natural picture. With the idea that each person who views the gallery may also take a part of it with them as they leave, I hope to remind them that their hand makes a difference. Their choice to take more than their share, or to leave the pieces behind, immediately impacts the experience of the people that come after them.
